Yea, I Knit…

Batting .900 (or something)

I don’t know baseball, so forgive me if the average is completely wrong. (If this were a hockey plus/minus metaphor, I’d be fine!)

We’ve had the Wii (and the Fit) for awhile. We get a little competitive around certain games, and taunt each other with our scores. We jokingly fib to each other that we aren’t practicing anything when the other isn’t around (we both know that’s SO not true) and have a lot of fun with it. Wii tennis in this house is not for the weak, just sayin’

Over the last few months though, we’ve both gotten way busier at work, our down time has been less and less, and the Wii time dropped dramatically. I’ve picked back up on it again the last week or so, and today, I went all out.

After an 45 min of the aerobics, I was still feeling good. I fired up tennis, won a best of 5 match, and remembered I hadn’t played the home run derby in awhile…

1st game out, I beat the standing record of 7 home runs, 3800 ft with this:

Too bad my knitting wasn’t anything close to .900 today! I have yet to pick up my needles. Work that should have taken an hour or so this morning took way too long and aside from the Wii time, I didn’t get to anything I originally intended to. Ah well, hopefully I will find some time tomorrow.

I’m really hoping the time change tonight doesn’t set me back on my sleep progress! I slept for a little more than 6 hours last night – and that’s a big deal. I’m trying to stay up a little later again tonight, since there will be no alarm going off in the morning, it could be ok :xfingers: And since I’m staying up a little later, I can rip and reball the cascade for Thermis, and then cast on the dishcloth for the swap I was supposed to have worked on today!

Yay – found knitting time!

Back in the Swap Groove

I had burnt out a bit on swaps a while back, and haven’t been involved in any in quite a while. Going hand in hand with my renewed interest in dishcloth knitting however, I kind of stumbled into a Dishcloth and Soap swap and thought it might be fun – knit a cloth get (or make) a fun soap, and send it off. Nice and easy!

We got our partners on Monday, with packages to be in the mail no later than March 20. I got my package TODAY!

My partner Cathy (CathyCH on ravelry) sent me a lovely cloth in a blue that perfectly matches my guest bathroom, a lemongrass scented soap, and a conditioner that smells great!

Tomorrow I will knit up my cloth and go shopping for my soap so I can get my package in the mail too. Once I know my pal has received hers, I will post pics of what I’m making up just for her :)

Happy weekend!

Almost there

Hang on – it’s almost Friday.

That’s been my mantra all day (actually, it’s a slight variation of that, but close enough) Busy day at work (par for the course) followed by a bunch of work I took home, including prepping for a meeting tomorrow afternoon that I’m torn between wanting to get into already and dreading.

I did snap a shot today that kind of sums up how I feel like things have been going of late (no, not really, just indulging in a little pity party. It’ll pass). Our wonderful IT guy (Hiya J!) was doing some stuff to swap PCs for one of my guys, and he called me over to check out this error message

Click for big so you can really see the error. He and I shared an appreciation for the lower case f, and the uppercase AIL. We don’t know what threw the error, so who knows – maybe it’s M$’s attempt at l33t?

It’s about time to wash up and get ready for some TV and then bed. And then? It’s Friday :yahoo:

Reading is apparently NOT optional

As if I needed further proof of just how out of it I am with this latest bout of sleep issues (because my brain fog, crankiness, and pathetic ability to construct proper sentences hasn’t been enough), I had another revelation today at the doctors office.

I checked in, and sat down for what I expected to be a good 15 to 20 minute wait. I pulled out my Thermis, expecting to finish off the last round of “setup” and start in on the pattern section, and to get an idea of what was coming, I decided to glance at the pattern. Wow. Just Wow. I spent a good hour or so knitting the other night and never caught on to the fact that I wasn’t following directions. At all.

I apparently decided to completely ignore the direction to K1, P1 for 20 rounds and just picked up on the K 1 rnd, P1 rnd. Instead of 20 rounds of ribbing, I have 20 rounds of garter. :bang:

There are times I would call it a design element and move along. This is not one of them. This ribbing is what will keep the cowl snug against the neck and garter just won’t cut it here. So, a-ripping I shall go :frogging:

Not tonight though – last night was a slight improvement with the new meds, so I am going to try and take them early again and get into bed. It likely won’t be tomorrow night either since I have a meeting on Friday that I need to prep for tomorrow night. I may get in some knitting time, but right now, it’s not looking too good. Weekend’s coming though

3rd March 2009

Drive by, to say the least

I just got home from the 1st night of sewing class, caught up quick on my email and I’m heading off to take the new meds I was prescribed (yes, I spoke to the doctors office early about my lack of results, and I’m trying something new – we’ll see) and get into bed early. Not quite as early as I’d like but I’ll take what I can get.

I am glad I signed up for this class as despite a slow start tonight (I already knew how to thread my machine and bobbin, but I’m really glad she’s taking it from the very basics) I think it will be a good class. I hope to learn as much as I can from her in the next six weeks.

After class we shopped for the practice fabric we need for next weeks class – yes I likely already have something here I can use, but it was all 30% off… I will show you the 2 I got tomorrow – tonight just a weird, slightly artsy shot of my machine in class. I’ll try to take better class pictures next week

And now, off to bed with me! Sweet dreams (I HOPE!)

Called on account of snow

If the city of Charlotte can shut down for snow today, so can my posting, right?

To be more honest, I have been having quite a bot of trouble sleeping – more so that my usual 4ish hours a night. I’ve been to the Dr and i’m trying some new meds which honestly aren’t doing a thing to help (I’ve been told to give it a week. This is night 6). That said, I’m dragging myself thru the day at work and by the time I get home, I’m just shot.

I came home tonight, had some dinner, uploaded my pics of the snow from last night and about all I have in me is my 10 rows of the March Dishcloth KAL knitting, then I’ll turn on the TV, take my pill and hope for sleep.

Before that, here’s the snow in a brief recap…

What I fell asleep to:

What I woke up to:

My drive to work:

I hope to be have something a bit more interesting tomorrow – it’s my 1st sewing class after work (yay!!)

1st March 2009

Ikea Craziness (or how I spent my Sunday)

It’s been a cold damp rainy windy cold day. I did my 1st 10 lines of the March Dishcloth KAL, and was faced with how to spend the rest of the day. When he suggested we go check out the newly opened Ikea, it sounded like a good idea since I havent been to Ikea since we moved and I have absolutely missed it. If for absolutely nothing else, we can always use batteries (no joke, their batteries are cheap and last forever!)

We decided to brave the crowds (it’s only been open 2 weeks, and there are still police directing traffic and people in the parking lots forcing you to park where they say so. Inside isn’t much better…

That’s just one section of the lot. It’s huge, but it was really nasty out and I was more interested in getting inside than taking more pictures.

I’ll spare you the details of all the pictures we took (gathering inspiration and pricing out the rooms we want to finish off). I did grab a shot of a pair of handknit cloths (plain garter stitch, white bulky cotton) for $4.99

Somehow, we managed to pass on them ;-) I was VERY tempted by the rag rugs they had for $1.99 (seriously!) but since I didn’t want to deal with the pushing and shoving of the people ripped at each other to get to the bin (sad commentary on people…) so I decided to pass for now.

We did manage to get close enough to the LIVE indoor palms though – FINALLY!! I have wanted a big potted plant by the front door since we moved in – except I didn’t want to pay 11 zillion dollars for it. Fake ones were running about $60 and all the live ones we found were MUCH smaller. We got this one for TWELVE Dollars. We also found a nice pot for another $12 – well worth it.

Forgive the crappy pic – cell phone + grey and rainy day = less than stellar photography.

We got some random other things (including lingonberry preserves YUM!) and managed to get out before we harmed anyone. It took a lot of restraint (and I wish I was kidding. I don’t think I have ever been shoved around so much in a store!)

Tonight’s plans include knitting and watching TV. They’re calling for (hahahahaha) 3-6 inches of snow here tonight and as much as I would love a snow day, I’ll be in tomorrow regardless.

More on the stuff on my needles tomorrow, honest!
