FOs and stuff

Wha wha WHAT? Did I just say FO?

Well, yes and no. While it is true that these items (yes, plural!) are indeed now FOs, I ust confess they were only UFOs because they still needed to be felted. Which I was putting off pre move because my washer in the old place wasnt exactly conducive to felting. But since i uncovered these guys in the unpacking (which I am not doing too much more of, whats the point, since we’re renting here with the intent of buying by the time out lease is up anyway) I figured their time had come.

Remember these?

These are from NOVEMBER 2005!!

Today:

And remember that bag I was knitting for the Knit Sock Kit Swap back in july?

I ended up not liking how it turned out unfelted, so I just kind of tossed it aside. When I felted the FF, I felted it too. I think with the right closure, this might be a good small project carrier. Maybe. Im still not loving it so it may end up being given away to little someone I know who loves black and red things. I dont like giving away stuff im not happy with but this lil missy always likes stuff to play with, and if it will get used, I guess thats enough.

I’m also still plugging away on the fingerless gloves! We have thumbhole, and im just about ready to start the actual fingers! (I know, slowest project ever! But Im stealing my knitting moments these days.)

I know, hard to see the glove. Better shot when it’s done, which I hope is soon! This weekend is nothing but knitting, reading, and maybe some laundry and digging out some stuff I want to bring in to my office. (We’re nearing the end of the 6 week training classes, and my team will hit the floor soon. I want to have my space ready to go)

Did you notice the book? That’s the reading I have planned for the weekend.

I was lucky enough to get an advance publisher’s edition, and while Ive only just started it, Im enjoying it already. I really need to learn to knit and read at the same time!

And finally, it IS Saturday, and the last Saturday of the year no less!

Saturday Sky

Overcast, but at 57 degress on Dec 30, it can be as overcast as it wants!

That’s it from me for now. There will be one more post before the year is out, I’m sure. It’s one of those holidays that gets me reflective…

Will wonders never cease?

Yes, it’s true. There has been knitting here in the land of corrugated cardboard and newspaper. I know, hard to believe, but look – it’s true!

That’s the Leaf-Patterned Lace dishcloth, which was the September Mid-Month pattern from the Monthly Dishcloth KAL in Sugar and Cream blue (unblocked, and in the interest of full disclosure, the ends are not yet weaved in.). That’s also a mittered square, just because I had a tiny little bit of the orange varigated cotton left over from the dishcloths I made for Val back in June (amazing what you find when you pack, huh? I could have sworn I gave her all the extras from that, I guess not!). Now that I know how quick and easy they are, I can see making up a bunch of these from cotton leftovers and piling them up until I have enough for maybe a blanket or something. And finally, because someone moving from NY to NC has SUCH a need for fingerless gloves, I cast on for these (I never claimed to make sense!)

So there you have it – 2 FOs and a WIP. (And yes, the 1st Jaywalker is still waiting to be finished, and the second one hasn’t even been conceived yet. All in good time… after all, it IS Socktober after all!)

What’s on your needles?

Ha rifinito!

Es hat beendet!
Il a fini !
¡Ha acabado!

In other words…

Finsihed the knitting last night, ends weaved in this morning. (The picture is pre bath but the work is done!)

I have some household stuff to get thru after I finish my work stuff, and at some point today/tonight, I’m planning to sit down and decide which sock I am casting on for. (Because I MUST cast on for socks today. Or else!) Which one will it be? Won’t know till I get there :winky:

Overload!

Lots of pictures ahead…

Yesterday, when the mail came, the only thing I saw was a package from Austrailia. :hypnotized: There was other mail, but I had tunnel vision – and you would too!

Just LOOK at that bounty! Yarn Magazine (an aussie mag I havent seen up close yet, & can’t wait to start reading!) handmade stitchmarkers, TWO sets of Addi turbos, a set of Addi DPNs, point protectors, a tape measure, knit socknotecards, TWO skeins of snuggly soft handdyed New Zealand Merino in 2 very stunning colorways, and (as if all that wasn’t enough!) a hand sewn project bag!

close up of that yummy merino

Pretty stitchmarkers

My very generous and very kind KSKS pal has excellant taste, no? Sadly, Janette did not include a blog address so Im not sure if she has one – hoping she will comment here and let me know. Either way, Janette’s Blog can be found here – be sure to go say hi!! I LOVE everything I got Janette!!!

I kept my honey and our friends waiting to leave for dinner last night while I sent off a quick note of thanks to Janette and while their feet were tapping with impatience, I posted quickly on the KSKS blog as well – a package that nice deserves immediate thank yous!!

We went for dinner (Indian food – yummy Chicken Korma for me!) and then to see the Pirates sequel. Eh. Didn’t hate it, but I liked the 1st one much better. That’s all I’m saying. We got home reallllly late and even though I was up at 7, I let him sleep till almost 2!

Mail came today and I was very surprised there was another box for me! I joined Yarn Aboard 2, but last time around I didn’t get the box till the very end – imagine my shock at discovering I was one of the 1st batches this time!

Yes the box is pretty but it’s much prettier INSIDE!

Just look at the goodness! A BMFA Sock Pattern) fair isle – which will push me to try it), STR in Jasper (just stunning in person – the deep garnet burgundy tones are to die for!), a note pad that is perfect knitting bag size, and Chocolate Drizzle.

I have something to pick up on Monday before I send it back out to :shhhh: (wouldn’t you like to know?) (I just need to remember to take a pic of the box doing something “local” for Amanda)

In actual knitting news, the Dreamswatch headband is all done, but I haven’t blocked it. As soon as I finish this post, it is off for a quick soak and then a nap in the warmth to dry so it will be ready for gifting on Monday.

I have only done 2 rounds of the sleeve on the baby cardi, I have no idea why I’m emotionally stalled on this project but I will pick it up again tonight and see how far I can get.

And finally, it’s Saturday, which means it’s time for

Saturday Sky

If we get a nice sunset tonight (since the humidity broke mostly and the air isn’t thick) I might add another pic later for variety :D

Happy weekend!

Slow Sunday

It must be tough to be Sunday. Think about it – most people seem to have a love/hate relationship with the day. They love the lazy weekend day for it’s generally historic mandate to be a day of rest, but also abhor it’s signal of the coming work week. I’m certainly guilty of it! I started out today thrilled it was Sunday, but as I looked at the clock a few minutes ago, the feeling of disappointment came crashing down. And I still have laundry to do!

Anyway, I finished the Mason Dixon Baby Genius burp cloth last night.

It’s shorter than I would have liked, but that’s my fault. I only had one ball of this color of PnC, and still, I decided to drop down a needle size from recommended because I really liked how the fabric felt tighter knit. It’s squooshier! I’m not worried about it, I’m sure it will still be put to good use.

This morning, I went stash diving, because I really wanted to do something this month for Project Spectrum (purple), and being a good SOS participant, I needed to use something in house. Surprisingly, I have no real purple left in my stash except for this cotton tots in a light lavendar.

I still need to check one other place, because I swore I had some Trekking in purples around here someplace!!

Those 4 skeins aren’t quite enough for a blanket, but I will find something to make from them, I’m sure. Possibly 2 more MD kimonos…

The little lamb in all the pictures is a new addition to the house. I have been told he was bought to add to my collection. I wasn’t really aware I had a collection, but I guess I have at least the start of one….

Could be worse *s*

And finally, before I rush off to enjoy what’s left of my Sunday, I want to thank Janet for her sweet gift and card. I really thought I did this the day it arrived ind brightened up my mailbox, but apparently, my memory is worse than I thought!

I mentioned I had been having trouble finding the clear chibi with the smaller needles, and tada! She sent me one! Many thamks my friend, and sorry for taking to long to get it posted!

Hope everyone’s weekend was long and wonderful!

Getting there…

I have a few items left to complete and all the baby stuff I wanted to finish will be finished.

See? the 2nd set of socks is now complete! And lest anyone think I am recycling old Opal baby sock pictures…

Tada! 2 Opal hats, and 2 pair of Opal socks, (Yes, one set is intentionally bigger… one mommy-to-be is carrying BIG!!!)

I also finished the 1st of 2 bibs from Mason Dixon Knitting in Sugar and Cream

I’m planning one more of those, and 2 of the burp cloths, and the packages will be ready for the mail (and I can think about knitting what I want to knit!)

Scout’s wonderful Think Pink yarn arrived yesterday. I wish I could tell you I had a ton of pictures, but the grey rainy weather is not making for good natural light pictures. The ones I posted the other day
are pretty close, but I did take this close up shot which may help you see how gorgeous this stuff really is (but it still wont convey how SOFT it is!!)

Just 3 days left to donate and enter the contest to win this yummy stuff, or a skein of Sunshine Yarns, or a skein from my stash…. and please consider telling someone else about the contest? With a chance to win some great yarn starting at as little as a dollar, I think it’s your duty as a fiber friend to share the info :winky:

And the Sprint/Nextel nightmare continues… they refused to cancel the order when I called yesterday morning, so I called Fed Ex – several times! Once the package finally showed up in the system (10pm last night!) I had them mark it refused by recipient, so technically, it shouldn’t land here. We’ll see. Either way, the phone will be back at Nextel by Thursday, and on Friday, I will be calling to confirm the contract has been removed and no charges applied. IF (and that’s a mighty big if!!) all goes well, I will be porting my number over the weekend to a new carrier. I see no reason to stay with a company that has given me so much grief! I think I have decided on a phone and a plan with T-Mobile, after hearing some really great things about their customer service and coverage from a few local friends who use them (and have, for at least a year). Still doing some research, but so far, their plan fits my needs, and the phone selection is pretty cool.

Need some tea and it’s (past!) time to get some work done. At least it isn’t raining….

Triple Play

( aka “A Study in Orange” )

Last night, I finished the 2nd cloth, so the orange gift set is finished – just in time to gift it away this weekend!

The round cloth pattern is HERE
The towel pattern is HERE

I have enough of the 2 balls left to probably make one more combo towel (maybe? I’m still not a pro at estimating by eye). However, since the colors aren’t really me, I have decided to pack them up with the set and let the recipient decide what, if anything, she wants to make to coordinate – just another good reason this person is the perfect recipent! This means I have officially removed 2 “super size” balls of S n C from my stash, added 3 FOs to the list, and confirmed that dishcloths/towels ARE fast fun knits. (the last part is especially good since I have a ton of the S n C in my stash, which means there are definately more cloths and towels ahead :giggle: )

There are only 2 last baby knits to complete the sets, the kimono and the 2nd sock. I really want to get them done, but whatever I knit tonight needs to be pretty mindless so I think I will just take the Project Linus blanket with me, and start the sock or the kimono tomorrow.

Gotta get some work done, and run to the post office, and a few other errands (like that Father’s Day card!!!) Happy almost Friday!
